Community Innovation for Sustainable Energy researcher produced a report on the Barley Bridge Weir Hydro-Electric scheme in 2012. The initiative was a community energy project based in Staveley, Cumbria and it was initiated in 2007. By November 2011 the project was put on hold due to struggle in overcoming difficulties with keeping the scheme running. The report outlined key insights on the growth and diffusion of such community initiatives, including that raising a group’s profile and collaborations could lead to access of more resources; that local knowledge was important for project development; and that the success and failure of a community project exist together and have to be considered from wider perspectives than just the initial focus of the project.
