Nationwide online public dialogue via deliberative workshops orchestrated by the National Government in 2020 exploring citizens’ attitudes towards Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS). The workshops ran from 1 October 2020 until early November 2020 with participants from Aberdeen, Teesside, Liverpool, Port Talbot and Nottingham. More than 100 participants took part in seven online workshops, where they had the opportunity to learn about and discuss CCUS with each other and specialists from industry, academia and independent bodies. Participants also used an online platform to complete individual activities and feedback tasks relevant to the discussions each week. The dialogue produced new online engagements around CCSU; whilst participants generally accepted the role CCUS could play in delivering net zero, they raised concerns around cost effectiveness, risk, and safety.
