The Fair Energy Campaign is a volunteer-led movement emerging from Citizens UK in 2020 to tackle fuel poverty and improve access to green energy through community action. They are calling for energy companies to: (a) end “tease and squeeze” pricing, and (b) switch to 100% renewable electricity. Their campaigns focus on three main areas. First, working with St. John the Baptist primary school, Fair Energy Campaign are developing a green wall prototype and curriculum to improve air quality in school and reduce CO2 emissions, and developing a methodology to document the reduction of energy usage through a collective action as school community. Second, partnering with HACT and four London Councils (Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest) we are designing new ways to access emergency funds for families experiencing fuel poverty. Third, partnering with Spotlight and Poplar HARCA, Fair Energy Campaign are organising community workshops exploring ways for local communities to impact energy policies, and mapping local initiatives to understand what a net-zero neighborhood in East London means.
