The Generic Design Assessment pilot for the Advanced Boiling Water Nuclear Reactor proposed by Hitachi-GE in South Gloucestershire and Anglesey was completed in 2014-2015, and comprised of three main stages: (a) an online national scoping survey of 401 people across England and Wales; (b) an initial public workshop designed to provide an introduction to the topic and context of the GDA; and (c) a focused workshop involving a mix of 18 participants from the earlier two sessions that aimed to inform a deeper exploration of key issues of public interest. Through this engagement, a series of public concerns with regards to nuclear waste, the safety and health impacts on local populations, energy security, and long-term environmental impacts were raised.
