Researchers from Loughborough University conducted an online public opinion survey to explore the public acceptability of a range of low-carbon alternatives to build the walls of UK housing. The survey was conducted in 2011 and received 572 responses from a sample designed to be representative of the UK public. It found that although alternative construction techniques were seen as less acceptable than the conventional technique, levels of acceptability varied greatly by type and were affected by aesthetic, environmental, financial, operating cost and risk concerns. Education was seen as key to improving the acceptability of low-carbon construction techniques.
