School Strike for Climate (also known variously as Fridays for Future (FFF), Youth for Climate, Climate Strike or Youth Strike for Climate) is an international movement of school students who skip Friday classes to participate in demonstrations to demand action from political leaders to prevent climate change and for the fossil fuel industry to transition to renewable energy. The group stands for mass systematic change, putting diverse youth voices at the forefront of their campaigns to ensure a liveable future for all. In the UK, the group is organised by the UK Student Climate Network (UKSCN) that was set up by a small group of volunteers on 1st December 2018, inspired by Greta Thunberg and the international Fridays For Future movement. The first national strikes happened on 15th February 2019, and since then young people have mobilised across the country, taking part in monthly Friday strikes, to demand system change in order to halt the climate crisis. They have taken part in global climate strikes, alongside many other countries in March, May and November, and on 20th September 2019, 350,000 students and adults went on strike across the nation, demanding urgent action on the climate crisis.
