Researchers at the University of Nottingham and VU University of Amsterdam conducted research on Twitter conversations around the 2013 IPCC Working Group 1 report. The researchers analysed 61,713 English language tweets published between 17/09/2013-8/10/2013 which contained the acronym ‘IPCC’. Results showed that most used hashtags were related to science, geographical location, and climate change social issues. Noteworthy tweets related to Australian and US politics, geoengineering, and fracking. Results also identified 3 communities of Twitter users indicating that overall Twitter users were most likely to communicate with users holding similar views. However, results also indicated the emergence of another Twitter community in the UK with greater interaction between contrasting views.
