Questionnaire survey exploring public attitudes towards shale gas. The survey was carried out by YouGov as part of activities of the ASSIST (Attitudes to Shale gaS In Space and Time) project led by academics at Exeter, Stirling, Edinburgh, Heriot Watt and Cardiff Universities. The survey used an online panel with 2777 participants broadly representing the population of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Overall, the survey indicates public opposition to shale gas, with shale gas being a less supported option by comparison to UK offshore gas fields, UK onshore drilling without hydraulic fracturing, European imports, UK coal-bed methane extraction. and LNG imports, but more supported than Russian pipeline imports.
