The Facilitating, Learning and Sharing (FLASH) project was an academic study that installed retrofit measures in 10 homes and then conducted post-construction interviews and household ‘walk-throughs’ with occupants to explore their experiences and satisfaction. Led by researchers at University College London, The Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, and the UK National Energy Foundation, the research was conducted between November 2011 and April 2012, in different household types across London, and was funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and EDF Group. The study sought to develop and trial new, socio-technical methods for conducting post-occupancy evaluation of household retrofits and found that such approaches help to overcome the fragmentation of existing post-occupancy evaluation techniques and provide better insights into household activities and practices and how they adapt to domestic retrofits.
