Unilever conducted a survey into showering habits to find out how people in the UK were using their products. They developed a data logger called “shower sensor” to record the shower times and energy usage of 100 families over a 10-day period. 2,600 showers had been recorded. The data showed that the average shower lasted 8 minutes and used 62 litres of water compared to a bath which used 80 litres of water. Data also suggested that a power shower would use twice as much water as a bath.
